I've been reading a great book by Art Brownstein, MD, called Extraordinary Healing. He explains:
"When you think about the number of threats and insults your body sustains over the course of a lifetime, the fact it can remain healthy at all is truly amazing. To accomplish this incredible task, you need a single system in your body that can supervise and direct all the other systems into a unified, efficient, orchestrated healing response for your protection and the preservation of your natural state of health. That single, supervisory system is your healing system.
Your healing system not only maintains your natural state of health, but whenever you are sick or injured, or whenever your health is threatened, it is also in charge of damage control. It monitors and supervises all processes of repair, growth and restoration of health and normal functioning of your body's cells, tissues, and organs."
So, it's a pretty important system in the body, and vital it is functioning at it's optimum. The book really got me thinking.
How does Reiki really help to boost your Healing System?
We have learned that the healing system functions best in a quiet calm environment. Reiki reduces stress levels and brings about a deep relaxation. Deep relaxation quiets down the nervous system and slows metabolic processes in the body, so the healing system can do it's work unimpeded.
The healing system also slows down when negative thoughts and emotions are present in the body. When you are relaxed, you are more aware of your emotions and are able to move through and release fear and anger more effectively. Through Reiki, trapped and unexpressed emotions can also be brought to the surface and released. Reiki can help to remove any negative thoughts and beliefs you may have about yourself, there by boosting your self esteem. It can bring relief from anxiety and depression which in turn brings more of a positive outlook to your life which is another way of giving a boost to your Healing System.
Reiki also eliminates tension and decreases pain. By removing or reducing stresses in your body, feelings of fatigue are decreased and energy levels are increased. With reduced stress and increased relaxation sleeping is also improved. This is when the Healing system does it's best work.
So in a nutshell, Reiki is a relaxing healing modality, bringing the body, mind, and spirit back into balance. When you are in balance, your Healing System has the ability to bring you to optimum health.
Tips from Art Brownstein, MD, to strengthen and fortify your Healing System:
- Learn to listen to your body
- Pay attention to your personal hygiene
- Eat a well balanced diet consisting of natural foods
- Get adequate exercise and physical activity
- Get enough sleep and rest
- Manage and minimise the stress in your life
- Enjoy your work
- Enjoy your play
- Develop effective social skills
- Utilise natural elements that support your healing system such as fresh air, sunshine and water
